Steps Towards a Greener Future?

The United Nations Climate Change Summit has just finished at Cancun in Mexico.
Success or failure? My picture is a metaphor for how I saw it.
How do you see it? My interpretation tomorrow.

  1. To carry the metaphor a bridge too far, I suspect those steps, and the entire staircase, harbour wood-rot.

I will consider my reactions, and post again later this evening, when I have my thoughts together. Initially, I feel that the talking and the agreements are all very well, but it depends on what they all do back on home turf. It has to be unilateral. The moral high-ground is a good place from which to pontificate.

  2. Unfortunately, as usual, it all comes down to money. None of them are prepared to get pushy with industry. It is the same old story, people complain that certain policies will mean the loss of jobs. I guess the here and now in regard to quality of life is more important than our quality of life 10 or 20 years from now. I think people should think about that. We are talking about the quality of life for our children, and their children.

  3. I have had this picture for a couple of weeks and it comes from the house of a very eccentric/simple man who collected recyled materials.
I think most people want to be more "green" as symbolised by the bottom steps. There is lesser enthusiasm the higher you go and as Julie pointed out the entire staircase (ideal) contains wood rot. For most people no matter how idealistic we are, me included, being green is still dependant on the hip pocket.
I really miss Mr T and his cart, he was an old school recycler.

  4. My approach to nearly everything in life is to plomb for somewhere between two extremes.

I for one, am really pissed off with the Greens because they wrecked what could have been possible in October 2009. And they did this because they wanted something better. I maintain that an objective is secured gradually.

I am all for agreement between opposing forces. Compromise for many, is an ugly word but they lo9ok at what is not gained rather than what is gained.
