Give My Regards To Broadway(& Grace Bros)

For many decades shopping in the inner west of Sydney was dominated by Grace Bros on Broadway. The matching pair of buildings with their clocks and enormous globes were/are as much a Sydney landmark as the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. It closed in 1992 and now houses a rather mundane shopping centre and student accommodation for nearby Universities.
It has been great fun to visit the Big Smoke and shake off the smell of the gum leaves for a few days.
Farewell Sydney until next time.

For more shots of the old Grace Brothers building check out J Bar's terrific Sydney - City & Suburbs Blog.

This is my contribution to the Shadow Shot Sunday2 meme.

  1. Very nice photo.

    Regards and best wishes

  2. Awesome building and terrific shadow shot for the day, Mark, as always! I'd love to visit there! Hope you're having a great weekend!

  3. Beautiful night view of this iconic building! Walked past it many times on the way to Sydney University just beyond. Good to see the old girl is still lively!

  4. These are lovely buildings. I noticed the big sign advertising The Hunger Games ;)

  5. It certainly is a wonderful building, I remember shopping there when it was Grace Bros..
    Thanks for sharing

  6. Great shot of this building - the lighting makes it look quite magic. This was my local shopping centre for quite a few years. Maybe mundane but certainly functional for those that live in the area.

  7. Wow-what gorgeous architecture! Looks like an interesting place to hang out.

  8. such nice light effects in this shot....

  9. Wonderful light and shadow on the building. Sometimes it's magical to visit a city and then return to life in the country. Usually it makes me appreciate the countryside even more. :))

  10. Beautifully captured. Thank you for your beautiful contribution to Shadow Shot Sunday 2.

Finding Beauty in a shadow. Have a blessed Sunday.

  11. Does the smell of the gum leaves really cling to you? :)

  12. Hi Magical Mystery Tour, 'smell the gum leaves' is an old expression that describes how city folk can tell that you are from the country by your 'non city' ways.
