Maclean's Hollywood Theatre closed in 1967, like many picture palaces a victim of the TV revolution that swept the nation. The Art Deco facade is unique in the town's street-scape and is heritage listed. It was converted to an arcade in 1969.
Also on the State Heritage list is the concrete sign 'Picture Palace' embedded in the footpath.

Love the charm of old theatres so much! Just there are so few left, all recycled with new make up! Amazing about the footpath sign! I have never seen this before!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that it is listed - such a beautiful facade!
ReplyDeleteThat Hot Bread sign must go! It destroys the flow of the excellent art deco lines ;(
ReplyDeleteGreat art deco design but agree that the hot bread shop sign needs to go.

So glad that even though it's not being used as a theatre anymore, it is still being used and not knocked down..definitely concur about the bread sign attached to the wall, it has to go!! I'm really surprised as it's heritage listed that they even allowed it to be there.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am surprised that the bread sign was allowed.
ReplyDeleteThere seem to be a lot of people standing around, is there a bus stop here?
I agree with everyone about the Hot Bread sign. Lesley it was just before the march of the Pipe Bands at the Maclean Highland Gathering Scottish festival at Easter. See the last few days posts for more scenes of Scottishness.
ReplyDeleteHah! I wondered what the old ducks in the chairs were hanging out for!
