G is for Goonoowigal

The Goonoowigal (pronounced Gun e wiggle) Wilderness is 10 minutes from the centre of Inverell. The name of the boulder strewn park is Aboriginal for 'plenty rock wallabies'. There are some pretty waterfalls and lots of tracks; Inverell is lucky to have such a wild and beautiful place so close.

Goonoowigal does have an interesting but shameful history, more on that tomorrow.

  1. The boulders really look so ancient, like from a different world, or from the dreamtime.
